What a Dhaka Wedding Really Costs in 2026 (Full Breakdown)
A line-by-line taka breakdown of a Dhaka wedding in 2026 — venue, catering, gold, clothes, photography and the small costs families always forget, with three worked budgets.
The two families have been talking for twenty minutes about dates — whether a Friday is better than a Saturday, whether to wait until after Ramadan. Then an uncle puts his cup down and asks the question everyone had been circling. Biyer khoroch koto hobe? What is this wedding going to cost?
Nobody in the room has a real number. They have fragments: what a cousin spent in Uttara two winters ago, a per-head rate someone heard for a community centre in Mirpur, a general feeling that everything has become more expensive. So here is the line-by-line answer for a Dhaka wedding in 2026, in taka, including the costs families discover only after they have committed.
The headline number for biyer khoroch in Dhaka 2026
The Business Standard reported that a middle-income Bangladeshi wedding that cost around Tk 8–10 lakh before 2021 now commonly lands at Tk 12–15 lakh. That is not one party. It is the whole sequence — akd, gaye holud, the reception, clothes, gold and gifts — usually split unevenly between two households.
Before you react to that figure, understand what it hides. A Dhaka wedding is not one budget; it is two budgets that keep pushing each other upward. The ranges below are what families in the city are actually paying. They are starting points for your own planning, not fixed rates, and they move with the venue, the season and how hard you negotiate.
- Simple, one main event: roughly Tk 2.5–4 lakh in total.
- Standard middle-income, two to three events: roughly Tk 6–9 lakh.
- Full traditional, convention hall and heavy gold: Tk 12–15 lakh and upward.
Venue and catering: the line that decides everything else
Almost every other cost in a Dhaka wedding follows from one decision: how many people you feed. TBS reported club catering at around Tk 800 a head, with buffet-style venues at Tk 1,000–1,500 a head. Community centres in areas like Mohammadpur, Mirpur and Jatrabari sit below that; five-star hotels sit far above it.
Run the arithmetic before you print a single card, because the guest list is the real budget:
- 200 guests at Tk 800 — Tk 1,60,000 in food alone.
- 400 guests at Tk 1,200 — Tk 4,80,000, more than triple, for a list that feels only twice as long.
- 600 guests at Tk 1,500 — Tk 9,00,000, before hall rent, decoration or stage.
Hall rent is charged separately by most venues and in Dhaka commonly runs from about Tk 40,000 for a modest community centre to several lakh for a convention hall on a peak-season Friday. The traps are in the contract rather than the headline rate — parking, service charge, corkage on outside catering, and the cancellation clause. We go through all of it in Choosing a Wedding Venue in Dhaka.
If you need to cut Tk 2 lakh from a wedding budget, cut one hundred guests. Nothing else on the list comes close to that leverage.
Gold, and why this line moved the most
Twenty-two carat gold crossed Tk 217,382 per bhori in October 2025 according to BAJUS. A jewellery set that a family planned for at 2021 prices is now, at the same weight, a fundamentally different obligation.
The Daily Star has documented what this is doing to bride-side families in particular — borrowing, renting sets for the photographs, and quiet debt carried long after the wedding. If gold is where your budget is bleeding, read Gold for Weddings in Bangladesh before you go to the jewellers, not after.
Clothes, parlour and the getting-ready costs
- Bridal sharee or lehenga: commonly Tk 15,000–60,000, and well above that for designer work in Gulshan or Banani.
- Groom's sherwani or panjabi set: commonly Tk 8,000–35,000.
- Bridal parlour package (makeup, hair, draping, often a home visit): commonly Tk 12,000–40,000 per event, which is why three events triple this line without anyone noticing.
- Family clothing: the invisible cost. Mothers, sisters and khalas buying for two or three events adds up faster than the bride's own outfit.
Photography, decor and the visible extras
Photography in Dhaka is now tiered much like catering. A single-photographer day package sits at one end, and a full team with cinematic video, same-day edit and an album sits at the other, running into several lakh. Book early for December and January, when the good teams are gone months in advance. What to ask for, and what to put in the contract, is covered in Wedding Photography in Bangladesh.
Stage and decoration is the line with the widest spread of all. A simple flower-and-fabric stage can be done modestly; imported flowers, a themed entrance and heavy lighting can quietly cost more than feeding two hundred people. Decide which of the two matters more to you, because the photographs will look good either way.
The small lines families always forget
- Kazi fee and marriage registration. A legitimate registration fee is set by rule and is modest, but families are routinely overcharged because nobody knows the schedule. This explainer on what a kazi may lawfully charge is worth ten minutes before you book one.
- Cards and printing. Often Tk 60–200 per card once you add envelopes and delivery, so 500 cards is a real line item.
- Transport. The decorated car, microbuses for the groom's party, parking, and fuel across three events.
- Mishti and gift exchange. Sweets by the maund, the tatta trays, gifts for close relatives on both sides.
- Tips and staff. Hall staff, drivers, the parlour team. Budget for it rather than being surprised on the night.
- Contingency. Add ten per cent. Something will always be forgotten, and a wedding is a bad time to borrow.
Three worked budgets
- Tk 3.5 lakh — one event, 150 guests. Community centre and catering Tk 1,50,000; simple decor Tk 25,000; clothes for the couple Tk 45,000; parlour Tk 15,000; photography Tk 30,000; cards and printing Tk 15,000; transport and gifts Tk 30,000; registration and miscellaneous Tk 15,000; contingency Tk 25,000. Gold handled separately and modestly.
- Tk 8 lakh — akd and reception, 300 guests. Venue and catering Tk 3,60,000; hall rent and decor Tk 1,20,000; clothes Tk 1,00,000; parlour across two events Tk 50,000; photography and video Tk 1,00,000; cards Tk 40,000; transport, mishti and gifts Tk 60,000; contingency Tk 70,000. Gold is on top of this figure, not inside it.
- Tk 15 lakh — three events, 500 guests, convention hall. Catering alone runs Tk 6–7 lakh, hall and decor Tk 3 lakh, photography and video Tk 2 lakh, clothes and parlour Tk 2 lakh, with cards, transport, gifts and contingency filling the rest. Gold at current rates can add several lakh again.
Where the money is actually lost
- The list that grows. Two hundred becomes three hundred because nobody wants to explain an omission. Decide the number first and let both sides split it.
- Booking in peak season without comparing. December and January carry a premium at every level, from halls to photographers.
- Paying to match someone else's wedding. Almost every family that overspends can name the specific wedding they were measuring against.
- Borrowing for one evening. Loans taken for a reception are repaid in the first year of a marriage, which is the year a couple can least afford the strain.
- Confusing gifts with demands. Anything a groom's side asks for as a condition of the marriage is dowry, and demanding it is a criminal offence under the Dowry Prohibition Act 2018. No amount of custom makes it lawful.
Agree the number before you agree the date
The families who come out of a wedding without debt are rarely the ones with the most money. They are the ones who agreed a ceiling, wrote down who pays for what, and stopped comparing. Our wedding budget planner sets out that conversation month by month.
It also helps to be talking to the right family in the first place. On amarjibon, every profile is NID-verified with a liveness selfie check, families can be involved from the first conversation, and you can filter on the things that decide compatibility — observance, education, district of origin, and expectations about work, money and living arrangements. It is bilingual in English and বাংলা, and your phone number stays private until you choose to share it. Creating a profile is free.
